BI-CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION –

(200 Years since the Founding of Fort Kamloops)

Your group is invited to participate in the celebrations!

Many community events are being planned for 2012 - among them, the publication of a book of memories, myths and stories about the settlement of Kamloops over the last two hundred years and the various ethnic groups that contribute to its growth.

Elisabeth Duckworth (Supervisor of the Kamloops Museum and Archives), Ron Hatch and Sylvia Gropp are co-authoring a book on the history of Kamloops from Fur Fort to Tournament Capital.

As part of the writing project, we are inviting various contributors to tell their stories.  We are asking you, as the representative of your society, to organize members to share the history of your cultural group.

Articles may be of various lengths: small (150 to 250 words), medium (250 to 350 words) or large (350 to 500 words).  You are encouraged to include as many pictures as you wish.  Submissions are to be typed in MS Word format (version 98 to the most recent) and submitted in digital form to the museum by January 6, 2012.

You may wish to consider the following questions in preparing your article:

  •  Earliest families to the Kamloops area, with dates and settlement location in the area
  • Significant leaders/figures
  • Additional immigration periods
  • Where your group immigrated from and the various reasons for leaving your homeland
  • Cultural traditions still practiced in Canada
  • Stories, trials and tribulations, challenges, successes and triumphs in coming to a new community
  • Any other information you would like to offer
